12-04-2002, 11:52 PM
Hiya Jan :) are you and Nikki sissy's?
yes you need to get her here to help us make them, there so much fun, :)
:ho: :holidays: :barf:
Mr T.C.
12-05-2002, 12:14 AM
Hey Crystal - your globes are great. Mine are going to be rubbish. You make those yourself??
Yeah - get Nikki in here - though I understand she is busy on a project.
Helen
12-05-2002, 12:19 AM
Yep, where is Nikki? If ya see her, tell her I need some ornament
HEEEEELLLLLPPPPPP!!!!!!
http://rightstuffhosting.com/images/helen.gif
Maybe I just need a little more eggnog... that might do the trick!
:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:
I am still lost.
How are ya'll making your ornaments transparent? After making mine, I merge>visible. Is this what's causing the white background on mine?
Help Me Please.
Helen
12-05-2002, 12:33 AM
Hey Jan...
You make the background green then make green the transparant color. And as you can see, that is absolutely all I know about making these things.

http://theflashho.com/matchMerge.gif
I swear this didn't work yesterday.
Jan, do as Helen said, STart your image with a base layer of green #009933., use match this colour, then when colour wheel comes up, type in #009933 to get green to be trans.
I did this quick, edges could be better.
If Nikki could drive here, she'd be here! She is out cruising, a wee bit early.
Mr T.C.
12-05-2002, 01:11 AM
Wierd... is this PSP stuff? "match this colour" is that a PSP thing? I use Ulead and don't know these terms. I got Adobe Photo and Illustrator but that means nothin :?
Flash ho
12-05-2002, 01:17 AM
Yeah, a psp term. I haven't used ulead in years, but it should have a similar term for making the BG colour ( #009933) the trans colour.
Photoshop has the option in the color swatch tool panel. or property inspector thing ( diff. term in ps)
Mr T.C.
12-05-2002, 01:22 AM
Hi Ho. I just got Illustrator 9.1 free off a buddy cos he needs me to pull his 'brochure' files apart to grab the graphics.
Looks good but time is short to do much more than just grab the pics for import into my Ulead.
Can't do this tonight. Hope I don't lose sight of this thread so I can try tomorrow night.

And I did not teach you that. ( btw,Next time don't use a textured fill :P )
Na, Dusty is much better looking! points?, dusty?
Alright, Officer Fred here. Everybody against the wall. Who is the responsible party? Dusty ain't here so it ain't her.
KK, if you keep that up, I will need to band Ho - he is under the age of reason. Your mom may ban you if she is called into the office or Ho's mom files a complaint. Hands above your heads.
1. You have the right to remain silent and refuse to answer questions. Do you understand?
2. Anything you do say may be used against you in a court of law. Do you understand?
3. You have the right to consult an attorney before speaking to the police and to have an attorney present during questioning now or in the future. Do you understand?
4. If you cannot afford an attorney, one will be appointed for you before any questioning if you wish. Do you understand?

6. Knowing and understanding your rights as I have explained them to you, are you willing to answer my questions without an attorney present?

Mr T.C.
12-05-2002, 01:09 PM
Only 40 fags? I might get down there. I got PCWorld just a few miles up the road in Reading.

Uh-oh.... I dont see a way to attach. If anyone wants them, email me at thebrumbaughs@mchsi.com and I'll send 'em. Or, you can do a search on google and find some pretty easily. I'm in a hurry right now, or I'd put them up for download.

Hi jan,
Look above ... you'll have to ask one of the transparency experts, like Crystal. That's it ... mine AREN'T transparent. I can't do it either. But, I don't have PSP or any software that I can do them with. Heck, I can't even put on the green backgrounds without messing them up!
Richard said he might (big might) be able to convert them for me. If he can, great. If he can't ... no bother. I just wanted to feel like I was participating. It's been fun.
But as far as design software, it's kinda like everybody else has a machine gun and I have a pea shooter!
Gotta say here ... Crystal, Shawn, jan, Richard, DJ, FTP Guy, Helen ... all you guys ... yeah, even you, Dusty ... your stuff is just beautiful. I've enjoyed looking at all of the beautiful ornaments and picturing them on our soon-to-be magnificent tree. It's really gotten me in the spirit of Christmas this year. Thanks, guys! :hkiss:
Flash ho
12-07-2002, 03:40 PM
Karen, what programs do you have? I can convert them all later, in a batch, so no worries on Trans Bg, Worst case, they become presents. main page bg will be 2-3 colours also
Jan - It isn't just you. I can make a trans BG and put it on a page, but putting it here sometimes just doesn't work, no idea why. Looking back at my Amy globe, she looks wider today, LOL, tell her sorry, I'll correct it.
Cartman
12-07-2002, 03:54 PM
Hi Richard,
I have PhotoShop Elements (stripped down Photoshop) and PhotoPaint, Digital Camera edition.
Probably with lots of study (of the manual and tuts), I'd be able to do something, but I've not gotten past using the program just to touch up my photography. And, right now, I don't have the time to spend to REALLY learn the two programs from top to bottom. So, creating graphics is difficult. Creating transparent graphics is impossible.
Animations are just done with that new effect in WS. That's the only animation software I have.
Helen
12-07-2002, 04:13 PM
You folks are all getting REALLY good at this. The photos in ornaments
are lovely... they take my breath away! :)
On the background thing Karen, I noticed that when you try to make a
transparent color in WS for an animation, it turns black. Maybe best to
just make it green and Richard can wave his magic bg transparency wand
for us.
Don't anyone stop... these are so cheery! :D
Richard,
Eight years difference between my girls. The pics were taken when they were both around the same age. They really look a lot alike.

Hi Nikks......
Flash Ho Ho Ho....a Frig is a Biscuit (can you believe I had to check the spelling for that.....yeah I know..you can believe it).......oops nope thats a FIG.....
Okay Frig is a word used before 9pm in Brit sitcoms etc instead of saying that naughty word.........but maybe TC didn't mean that either......I'll let him explain, maybe best......

Hope Santa is extra good to you this year!
Great wheels! Is that your wish car? My first car was a '59 Nash Rambler that I paid $250. Ah, the good old days. Nowadays, that's the gas bill. Just take it slow, Nikki. This is not the best time of the year to be driving. Slick roads and there are a lot of nuts on the road who have been doing a lot of partying. As cold as it is now, you won't see me driving with the top down.
Mr T.C.
12-08-2002, 11:54 PM
How come I gotta explain, huh? Well, at risk of getting in trouble I can tell you that frig is a British variant of "fridge" (though little used - more used for its after 9pm meaning). I had to look that up. I'll have to bow to your vocabulary Shane, or...???
And yes, a fridge is a "refrigerator", just like the old sailors song "Refrigeration In The Rigging".
Now if I'd simply said "ice box" I'd of saved a lot of confusion.
My wife still refers to the Fridge as IceBox.

Nice work Crystal.
You guys giving up on transparent? Can't you just 'cut them out'? I like your Gold & Blue Joe. That's kinda what I was wanting to do. Think I'll just do a set of six.

I'm trying to forget that image Joe. Scares the willies out of me.
Jan - I'm using PhotoImpact, not PSP but this stuff is the same in all these packages I think.
I'm taking a "copy" of Joes ornament and pasting onto a blank Photoimpact page. I'm then choosing the "area select" tool (the dotted line thinger) but I'm opting for "circle" instead of "rectangle". I zoom-in so I'm working with a nice big picture, you may want your ruler "rules" switched on to get the circle started just right...
http://com32.com/RStuff/joe1.jpg
Once I have the circle just right I "copy" and paste onto a new page. I've already bucket filled this new page with a colour that I'll make transparent. This should be a colour that doesn't appear in the ornament so white and black are no good - I've gone for Red. Don't forget to go back and copy the hanger thing detail too (the top cap)...
http://com32.com/RStuff/joe2.jpg
When all done I crop it nicely and save as a gif. At the time of saving I have the option to choose a transparent colour (called 'mask' option in PhotoImpact). I colour-pick my red...

Just add my 2 cents. fill your bg with green #009933, then make that the trans colour, as TC says, that way it will have a green antialias edge, (smoothed to green). So, same as above, except use green.
"Mask" is something differant in psp,ps,fw
cropping can also be done by using the magic wand, select bg, then invert, so now circle is selected. you can adjust feathered edge, antialias edge, hard edge etc.

Looking good!
Richard - does PSP dither when you 'merge' the cutout? Surely the whole idea was not to dither. Fine staircasing is normal with transparent images - like my Christmas signature lights... huh? http://www.click-smilie.de/sammlung/aktion/aktion082.gif

hiya all :),
I love all those ornaments there so awsome, I will make more tonight, but now we have to go to town,
Flash ho
12-15-2002, 10:29 PM
Yeap, avoid dithering at all costs. std too. "merge cut out" Not sure what that is. Basically, you are selecting the object, matting it ( creating an edge) and done! Shadows are gradients and will not show up very well, best avoided.
Yes staircasing will be apparent in a gif transparency, however, matting ( edging, antialias)to 009933 will make it blend in better. tree is 009933

Jan, I like that one the best ( so far). Want a tip? Well, you're getting it anyhow :)
It looks as tho you are using a gradient fill which goes light, dark, light, dark. Try using one that is light to dark only. You can pick anyone and edit it to just 2 colours, then name it and you will still have original and a new one. This will make globes appear as balls rather than cookies. If they are supposed to be cookies, Great job! :)
Mr T.C.
12-16-2002, 01:03 AM
Yeah - makes my knees weak. Sooooo sexy
On edit - that's Britney, not you Flash LOL! I thought Jans flat look was intentional. Gave me the idea of making some choc coins but I ain't got the time...
http://jansown.com/atest1.gif
This one is a test to see if the transparency works.
Richard, I'm not exactly sure how I did the other one. I think I used Bevel. Will that make a difference?
Flash ho
12-16-2002, 01:18 AM
Congrates! you got the transparency down!
Ah, if you are using a bevel, it will make it look like a button, not a ball. Try paint bucket, click on arrow in colour chip block on right, choose gradient fill, small rectangle thingy.
TC, scared me for a minute.

snow before... we don't get much in Florida. :)

last one tonight,
Chat rooms.... :| we never had a request for one here. We've all more are less chatted here. Each control panel has that feature available for those who want to install them on their sites. As for as I'm concerned, AOL Messenger is the best setup for chats and IM. I always liked the Forum because a lot of people don't have the same schedule and would miss out on the fun if the conversation was in a chat room.
Mr T.C.

Chat Rooms? I can't imagine anything worse. I have "Roger-Wilco" that works like radio over the Internet - brings game chat to online games with no chat!
