Can somebody please explain to me, in very simple terms, how to back up email (outlook express)? Last time I did this I lost everything.

Ihave a trojan virus on my computer that Norton can't take care of so I'm going to reformat and I have email files that I can't lose.

Thanks!

Nikki

I did this before Nikki and copied these instructions from another site at the time, I'm no expert but these step by step instructions helped me.....

Open Outlook, then:

On the Tools menu, click Options.
On the Maintenance tab, click Store Folder.
Select the folder location, and then press CTRL+C to copy the location. (I had trouble with this bit, in the end & just copied it normally & then pasted as per Ctrl+V below)
Click Cancel, and then click Cancel again to close the dialog box.
Click Start, and then click Run.
In the Open box, press CTRL+V, and then click OK.
On the Edit menu, click Select All.
On the Edit menu, click Copy, and then close the window.
Right-click any empty space on your desktop, click New, and then click Folder.
Type mail backup for the folder name, and then press ENTER.
Double-click the Mail Backup folder to open it.
On the Edit menu, click Paste.
Close the Mail Backup window.

Good Luck !!! , this worked for me.........

Hi Shane,

How do I get that email back into outlook now? I can only find ways to import it from other email programs.

Hi Nikki'

It's ages since I did this but I did a quick Google Search and this sounds like the way I got the emails back in.

I'm gonna have to do this myself in the next day or so........so if it don't work we can swop notes..............sorry not to be a bit clearer...

This is weird, but when I did a search on my hard drive for *.dbx, it came up with nothing. I looked around in outlook more, and in tools/options/maintence there is a button in there that says "store folder" and that gives you the path to the folders. The path was too long and import messages wouldn't take it all, so I copied it into search and came up with the folders, then just copy/paste all the ones I wanted to overwrite.

Make sure outlook is closed when you do the copy/paste.
