Another email going down Memory Lane -

My Dad was cleaning out my grandmother's house and he brought me an old Royal Crown Cola bottle. In the bottle top was a stopper with a bunch of holes in it. I knew immediately what it was, but my daughter had no idea. She thought they had tried to make it a salt shaker or something. I knew it as the bottle that sat on the end of the ironing board to "sprinkle" clothes with because we didn't have steam irons. Man, I am old.

Fred...just because you don't get any responses to some of this stuff doesn't mean we're not interested...keep it coming!

Oh dear, I made it to 'Older than Dirt'.

Few comments:

6. Home milk delivery in glass bottles with cardboard stoppers
Yeh, I was going to say, "No, no, tin foil caps," but then I remembered, Oh yes they WERE cardboard, with a staple and a little round-end tab in the top that you pulled up, right? And the cream at the top that you either poured off and put in a cream pitcher for coffee, or else shook up to make full milk?

9. P. F. Flyers

Missed that one (I think), but that was the only one. You don't mean Flexible Flyers do you -- the sleds with the big eagle as part of the trademark painted on the varnish wooden slats?

14. 75 RPM records

Come on, now, finger problem, I think? Surely you mean 78? The kind that would break if you dropped them on a concrete floor and that you could make into a fluted bowl if you heated them, put a weight in the center and pulled up the sides? Then you could paint them some horrible tasteless enamel color (TC and Shane -- sorry but I have to revert to my native spelling).

15. S&H Green Stamps

Remember them? Heck, I used to work for Sperry and Hutchinson in NYC (mid-town Manhattan)! Was a Cobol (remember that?) programmer, submitting my source code in punched cards and getting my compilation (full of errors) back the next day.

I remember all that and still have my marbles, well at least most of them.

Yep, Steve 78 RPM - I just can't type. But it takes us oldies to recognize that error.

The last time I had milk in a glass bottle was when I lived in England in the late 60s. I lived in Wethersfield - not the same one as Coronation Street, We use to have milk delivered and it was in glass bottles with the cordboard top. I must say that was some of the best years of my life - maybe because I was a lot younger and could still see without glasses.
