Video is a pain to add to your website, Flash MX makes this easy (basically drag & drop but needs your site visitor to have Flash 6 Player installed, alot will have, (Flix is one other program that does this easily) as its uptake is rising fast but you need to own Flash MX (or have downloaded the free trial) to create the video/avi to a .swf file.
This method uses a quick and easy way to add video to your website.
I imported an avi movie into Flash MX and exported it frame by frame as individual jpeg's. I used Flash MX, but you could do same with other software such as Flix or others. It could be done also by playing the video on your computer and doing pause>frame>screengrabs.
Video make big file sizes, whichever way you go. You can batch compress your series of jpegs in Fireworks or Photoshop easily....not sure about other progs, but must be possible...this will reduce your eventual 'movie' size considerably.
I then inserted the series of jpegs into Swish. Image1 >>frame one 'place' frame two 'remove'>>Image2 frame two 'place' frame three 'remove' etc (see .swi in surfsup2.zip for examples. Converted this series of place/remove images to a sprite & named the sprite (movie clips in Flash) so it's easy to control the movie via some buttons. (see the .swi for details).
In Flash4 & up just use keyframes on each jpeg.
Warning these are biggish files on dial up.
Fred & Helen: if too big I'll delete them :D
The zip containing the .swi, .swf, html files:

Online example:
(this is deliberately running a bit slow at 15 fps just to show you can't see where one image starts and the other stops)
