Hey i was wondering if anyone could make me a layout? I would like frames, you don't have to though. I don't really care for the colors maybe black and some greys. Make this a contest! but no prize tho. hehe

Why frames? Can you give alittle more detail on what you are looking for?
There is a million ways to build frames. top, middle, left , bottom. floating frame etc etc. Maybe do a picture of what you invision and post it?

Wow Shawn!
That looks like a page template, not frames. You might want to check out these two links on the new Webmasters Idea Page:
http://ideabank.rightstuffhosting.com/
Click on Jan's Web Studio Templates under the Website Content heading
and
Free Page Templates under the Favorite Links heading
As you can see, lots more goodies are being added; many still need the links put in for them... we're working on it :)

I just did a sample in PSP7. This can be made in the sizes you want.
I took a black background and used the triangle selection in PSP to clear away the lower right-hand corner.
Let me know if you want me to duplicate the whole page. It might take a little while but I think it can be done in Web Studio and PSP.

Hi Shawn, Like Jan says, that can be done using simple graphics. You would need 2 images like Jan's and scale them to the sizes you wanted. If you build in layers ( browser compatability - 4.0 and up) you could add your text, links and images on top of the gray box graphics.
Shawn

Hey Jan I liked what u made, but could you add more stuff to it like the sample i showed younz. Like I want a place to add links, my banner, and buttons and stuff.
I'm sure I can fix you right up.
What color gray (RGB numbers or Hex numbers) do you need?
Do you want the gray to be the background color?
It might take me until tomorrow evening, but I'm sure it can be done.
I'll post here when I'm done. I could have done it this afternoon, but I spent the day with my girls.

hi Jan, Just curious why you used jpg's? If you use gif's, you won't have colour shifts as you can get using jpg's. The "black " boxes show as #101010, not #000000. Jpg's shift colours to optimize the image, while gif's use 216 "pure" colours.
Shawn, Jan has done a great job for you. Page is only 5k. Just copy and paste! :) If you want to do this yourself- a couple of ways to build this. Both ways need 3 images. 1. a black rectangle, a grey rectangle and a black/grey square, split on the diagonal. Both ways use a solid grey background. You can build this using nested tables or layers or as one big image with hot spots. If your using a wysiwyg html editor, build in browser 3 and up compatability for table layout, in browser 4 and up compatability for layers. Place your images and resize as needed. 1k to 5k for page.
on edit - using tables would require only one image - the sq. with diagonal cut. The rectangle colours could just be table BG colours.
Jan - Thanks for that solution. You came through like a champ.
:toast:
"you won't have colour shifts as you can get using jpg's"
Richard, I tried both gif/jpg. It seems like the colors shift when I put those boxes online. There showing up as #000000 in WS but the other online.
Gonna try again.
Richard.....I went back and did everything in gif. I also used Vector.
Shawn.....what kinda buttons/banners/etc?

looks Good Jan!! and it is black as black! or back as black :?
As far as vectors - When you save as jpg or gif, it flattens your image and becomes a raster image. Using vectors is beneficial tho, as your native editing format ( psp, ps, fw ) maybe a little smaller and it allows you to export in vector recognizing formats - ai, esp swf etc. for future use.
Minor point - (Hope you don't mind the crit and I know you want to learn), as the quality of the black and grey boxes can't really be distorted by resizing "on the page", you could have accomplished the same thing with less images, as above. Ok, hit me now. The page is only 5k, so it won't save much overhead, just time creating images. 5k for a page layout is sweet.
on edit
You have a table tag in bottom of page. you could eliminate it I think.
Hey Richard,
I'm alwayssss wanting to learn. And no amount of criticizing ever has nor ever will make me mad or upset.
I'm confused about the distorting statement. Do you mean I could have made 1 graphic and resized it in WS or PSP?

Good, Glad you have thick skin :P
Yeap, if you resize an image or a drawing or a photo on the page ( in ws or other web builder), it can mess it up. But, resizing a solid colour box- it won't affect it. Make one grey and one black rectangle and make a square consisting of - 1/2 grey triangle, 1/2 black triangle.
Thanks for helping out Shawn....i just wanted to post to let you know Shawn is usually only here at my place (where a computer is available), on the week-ends. He just called me and i read these replies to him and he wanted me to post to let you know this and he says Thanks and he'll reply to ya Friday.

Hey Jan I really love the layouts! I don't know what one to use!
But i was wondering how do i put stuff in it and news in it??
Buy the way, here are some links to my buttons:
http://iversonsource.com/images/button03.gif
http://iversonsource.com/images/button05.jpg
http://iversonsource.com/images/aigaragebutton.gif
http://iversonsource.com/images/aifantasybutton.gif
And i don't really care what the colors are right now.
Do you own Web Studio? If not, you may want to purchase it.
Other than that, you will need to use HTML in order to get you material online.
Shawn

No, Jan...i meant since the layout you made is out of pictures...how do i add text and news in the boxes since they are pictures?
I'm assuming that you don't own Web Studio, am I correct?
If not, you'd have to set the page up with HTML by using the images and tables. You would need to right click and save all the graphics on the page to your hard drive.
It would be a breeze if you had Web Studio. Right at this moment, I'm playing with the buttons you have and I'll put it online within the next 30 mins.
If you bought Web Studio, it would be a great investment.....especially if you are really into site building.

Or you could get a free 30 day trial of Dreamweaver. View source on Jan's page, copy it, open DW, paste it (the html ) into Dw. Your done! Then just drag your buttons , text, images etc on to page. Much easier. Name your page, save, and upload.
More than one page? Then save the copy of Jan's html in notepad and use it as a template for all your pages.
If you are a student Dw is 1/2 price.
I put the buttons on the pages by using WS HTML gray box. This is only a test.

Sure wish I could use these pages on my Template site, but it would be copying.

Hey Jan i really liked it with the buttons. But you're still not answering my question. LOL
In the middle box, thats where i wanna add news and text and stuff. How would i do since it's a picture?
Shawn,
What text do you want to add? I will put it there so you can see what it looks like.

For a team that is 1-3 and has limped its way through the first half of the preseason schedule, the 76ers sure have some confident players. Allen Iverson, for one. Keith Van Horn, for another. "I think we are so much deeper than last year, and I think we are deeper than the team that went to the Finals," Iverson said after yesterday's practice at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. Jan, your layout page looks FANTASTIC! That's so sweet of you!
Hey Shawn, I made this for your birthday but got totally side tracked. Anyway "Happy "Really" Belated Birthday." I now know more about Iverson than any woman should know. I like some of his tattoos though.

Hi Shawn, Jan asked me to pitch in. On adding your text, (using Ws) using the code you have you could add it to the body, by using the html object and positioning it. You said you have ws correct? Another easier way, would be to open a new site in ws, open jans page, select all on jan's page and copy it on to the ws page, then just type your text where you want it. Or do the same thing in DW, but copy/paste code only.
If you are using ws, it may be a good begining for you to start playing around with text boxes, signs etc to get an understanding of what you are doing and what is possible.

Jan, you did a beautiful job on that template, as usual. It will be a
great addition to your portfolio.
Shawn, since you now have a nice site uploaded, and you want to
have an html template, this seems to be the perfect time for you to
learn html yourself. It is not an overnight thing, but you will benefit
from it for years to come and enjoy the pride of accomplishment too.
You can just print out some nice tutorials and study them during the
week when you don't have access to a computer. Then you will have
a basic understanding of it when you get back to the computer. People
will help you along the way when you get stumped. :)
Here are two very good places to get a quick head start:
http://www.webcode101.com/
http://www.pageresource.com/html/hclist.htm
Take your time and have some fun with it.... that's what real website
building is all about, not how fast we get the results. :D
Hi Shawn, That's great you found someone else to get you started.
Helen, Do you really think I should add those templates?
Flash ho

Hi Shawn, Glad you found a layout. Yes, like Helen said, if you plan on being a web designer, you should start with the basics - learning html.
You won't learn anything having others do the design for you. There are also a bunch of great books out there ( ck e bay for cheap ones), grab a book on learning html and jump in, then learn a paint/photo editing program like Paint Shop Pro , fireworks, photoshop etc. While you are in e bay look at some web building programs like Nanoweb and Dreamweaver4. Using these programs will help you learn the basics.
Helen

Absolutely, Jan! It is a fantastic job. :D
