This afternoon, our little town was overwhelmed by a KKK rally. Everyone was against it, but there was nothing anyone could do.

I don't want to surf looking around for the answer to my question, so here goes:

What is the significance of the burning cross?

I really feel stupid for asking, but I have no idea because I never paid attention to this group.

Ok. Here's why I asked this.

Today at work, I gave this young girl her allergy shots. We were discussing the fact that these idiots were gonna be in town.

I told her I thought some of the KKK members could possibly be church going people.

She wanted to know why the crosses were set on fire if some of the KKk were church members.

I had no explanation.

Yeah hypocracy and I also think a lot of that comes from Leviticus 25:44-45, where God gave permission to take slaves. "They will be your property." The KKK (and others) use that (parts of the bible) to justifiy their persecution of blacks. (Hate crimes to jews, gays and the way a lot of people still think of women as inferior and/or property.) And I guess considering the times anyone who is or appears to middle Eastern.

Or um, something like that :roll:

I hate it when a teaching situation comes up and I'm not prepared or don't know how to explain that something is wrong.
