On 7/23/03 I received a disturbing phone call. Apparently my younger brother suffered a heart attack. The next day he had 2 stents inserted into his heart to open his clogged arteries.

To say it "freaked me out" is putting it mildly. It tee-totally petrified me!!!

I set a goal.

I decided that I'd dump those weeds at 2:00 last Sat.

Couldn't wait til 2:00 that particular day. I had to do it earlier or else I'd bought another pack and would have forgotten my "goal." So last Sat., I lit the last one at 7:30 AM.

1 week later (well, almost......but have to wait til 7:30 in the morning), I'm sticking to my "goal", and have yet to put one of them in my mouth.

So far, after getting the "you-know-what" scared outta me.........I cannot bring myself to strike a match or lighter.

As far as I'm concerned............I'M DONE!!!!!!!!!!!

Take care...........jan

You can do it. :D I went from 3 packs a day to zip. Haven't touched a cigarette in 33 years. It would have been easier to have started when you moved. A new environment makes it a lot easier. Look at all the money that you will save - you'll be able to buy a new computer a lot sooner with the money saved.

However, smokers aren't the only candidates. - A friend at work had 4 stents inserted on Monday - he never smoked - except his temper.

Hi Jan,

I'm sorry to hear about your brother. I hope he's up and about real soon.

Ditto Fred, YOU CAN DO IT! I got up to 2 packs a day years ago and quit. Every time I wanted a cigarette I drank a glass of water. I don't know why I did, but it worked. I hate the smell of smoke now, but every once in a great while for some reason it smells good. (This usually happens if I'm in a bar drinking. ) The hardest thing to do tho was to find something to do with my hand!
