I cannot get it going. Every time I try, it's telling me there is no disc in the d-drive.

I place the disc with the writing side down. I'm using sony cd-rw 650mb reWritable.

Using winxp HP.

That's hilarious Richard. Not your page, but the cd pic.

I'm think I just finished recording my songs from my computer to the disc. I guess I need to wait and see if it works in my car.

The one that didn't work said it was full???? I opened up a new one and tried it.

I've been trying this for months, but guess I've been putting it upside down. DUH!!!!

Fred

Cool, Ho! To me that says it all. It would make a splash - pun intended.

if you recorded MP3 and did not change the format to wav, I don't think the CD will play in your car or any player that does not support that format. I'm just guessing here. A friend at work had that problem - he had to change the format to (.wav).

Thanks guys. I have it down to 44k, but need to crunch it some more. I've looked at it so long it doesn't look like anything to me.

Jan, like Fred said, make sure it is in cd format, (waves), not mp3 format. Very few car stereo's play mp3's. yet.

Richard, that is very nice and loads really quick for me. I like the way
you can see through the paint spray to the furniture underneath.

Leave it to me... just one little thing... I thought spray paint (or hair
spray, lol) starts small at the nozzle and widens with distance from the
nozzle. These look a bit like see through balloons that happen to be
floating by the paint nozzles.

Probably no one in the world but me would think that. :?

I'm sorry... it is such a beautiful job I hate to be picky... but you
asked. :D

When Stacy got home last night, she tried it in her cd player.....didn't work. But then she put it in the car player and it did.

Some of them are the mp's, but the majority is wavs.

Guess I'll have to go thru the entire cd in the car to see if it works.

BTW, anyone know of any good wavs sites where I can get some good music.........nothing heavy.

Cartman

OK, someone enlighten me here ...

I went to one of those MP3 sites and looked at the music. $3.95 a pop for downloading popular songs? They're kidding right? An album would cost twice what you can buy the same music on CD for.

I've listened to MP3's and, for the life of me, I can't hear any frigging big difference between that and CD. Maybe I just don't have a trained ear or something.

If anyone wants a REALLY good, but inexpensive stereo ... get the Bose Wave Radio with CD. I had the wave radio with a portable CD hooked to it. Then, I upgraded to the CD player. I don't know how Bose does it. But, once you listen to one of their systems, all of the others just don't cut it. We went to a demo and it was unbelievable the sound that comes out of this thing.

Anyway, I digress ... what's the big deal about downloading music from the Internet? REALLY. There must be something I'm missing. Educate me. :|

Jan, Is your car new? Maybe you can play mp3 in your car player! That would be great! My cd burner is picky, sometimes burning just doesn't go correctly. The only thing I can suggest is record as music not data and keep experimenting. You won't find too many wav sites as the files are huge. You can download mp3's then convert to wavs to burn. KaZaa Lite is a good resource for mp3's, however, be Alert to what you are downloading! Only dl mp3 or wav, do not download anything that is unfamilar. Also, search google for the song you want or artists.
Karen, not sure I understand your question, mp3's are a smaller file size than wav's, quality is a bit less. Mp3's are popular since you can have a zillion songs on a cd or your drive. Wavs are a higher quality than mp3, but I can't tell the differance. There are millions of free mp3's on the internet, search for what you want. Bose speakers are the best! Cambridge Soundworks and Creative Labs are based on Dr. Bose's speaker technology also. Basically, the same quality. All spinoffs of each other, sorta. I have Cambridge Soundworks in the office hooked to the pc, Bose in the shop, pc speakers sound as good as the 100 watt Bose set up!
Helen, actually, that is a true spray pattern and would be familar with someone who sprays. One of those stereotypical things. As the liquid comes out the nozzle, it draws air into the nozzle and back out in a wide ballon shape, spreading the liquid pattern. Thanks for looking, Think I will use it!

Thanks for straightening me out on that, Richard. See? You can tell that I've never gotten into the PC music thing. I don't even like music on my site! In fact, I usually surf with the speakers off unless I know I'm going to a site that has good sounds. Most of it is crap! Broken, scratchy. No offense to anyone.

I actually had my laptop hooked up to the WAVE radio for a time. But, then I got 5-speaker surround for the computer. (For DVDs) I got a good deal on a Polk speaker system. I have Polk speakers in my VW Bug too.

Richard, Car's not too new (2000).

Here's what happened going to work this morning.

I put the disc in and Amazing Grace started playing. It finished and track 2 started playing Hero. 30 seconds into Hero, it swapped back to track 1 and Amazing Grace started playing again.

Since I live less than 5 mins. from work, I didn't have time to punch any of the numbers on the player. I hate to admit it, but I don't know much about CD players. I was around in the time of 8 tracks and cassette players.

I'm going to erase the cd and try again tonight. I was just soooo excited last night, especially after months of putting the stupid thing in upside down.

I can picture the whole thing. Singing along and zap, you loose Amazing Grace, bummer. My helper wants to shoot me everytime I play the first cd I burned, it is really screwy. cd's are cheap, try one as an mp3 and another as cd(wav) try both in car, maybe it plays mp3's ! Which means you will need to drive to Memphis on your way to work, just to hear half the songs it will hold.

Richard Carr, not too new either.

jan
11-05-2002, 12:31 AM
I gotta fill ya in.

I erased everything.

Redid it.

14 songs.

First round, it converted

Second round, it completed.

Apparently it has to make 2 full rounds to work. Last night when it started redoing it again, I panicked and exited.

That explains why it did not work in my car this morning.

Instead of 1 track this morning, I now have 14.

As far as going to Memphis, I'll have to pass cause that is on the other side of the state.

Thanks.

Jan your car (a 2000) is pretty new, believe me............(don't let Ken hear you saying a 2000 car aint that new :) )

glad you got it sorted...... You can belt out Amazing Grace in the morning now :)

Most CD software (as I think Richard has said) has a burn as music setting or some similar setting. Best to shut everything else down before burning too, depending on your 'puter spec.

CD's are cheap, I buy them in bulk and sell them to Sting's mates in the Rainforest..........

I'm off today and the rest of the week.

So, I've been doing a few errands.

Wanted everyone to know that the CD I made is working perfect in my car's system.

Could have done it earlier if I had the CD turned the right way.

Now if I can find Strawberry Wine and Butterfly Kisses.

Flash ho

Glad you got it!

Here's Strawberry Wine -

Ingredients
4 to 5 pints strawberries
4 1/2 cups granulated sugar
1 teaspoon yeast nutrient
1 lemon, juice and rind
1 campden tablet
1/2 teaspoon pectic enzyme
1 package wine yeast
1 gallon water

Do not use overripe or spoiled berries. Crush the berries and place in primary fermentor. Add water to make up to 1 gallon. Stir in sugar, nutrients, lemon juice and rind, pectic enzyme and crushed campden tablet. Mix well to dissolve sugar. Let sit overnight.

Specific gravity should be between 1.090 and 1.095. Sprinkle yeast over the mixture and stir. Stir daily for five days.

Strain the must and squeeze out as much juice as you can from the fruit. Siphon into secondary fermentor and place airlock.

For a dry wine, rack in three weeks, and every three months for one year. Bottle.

For a sweet wine, rack in three weeks. Add 1/2 cup sugar dissolved in 1 cup wine. Stir gently, and place back into secondary fermentor. Repeat process every six weeks until fermentation does not restart with the addition of sugar. Rack every three months until one year old. Bottle.

The wine is best if you can refrain from drinking it for one full year from the date it was started. NOTE:

The quality of the wine reflects the quality of the fruit used. Use sour or over ripe fruit, and the wine will be sour or bitter. Use firm, ripe fruit for the best quality wine.

A quick question to my best friend, Mr. Google, reveals this -

http://www.angelfire.com/ms2/tommy438musicpage/tommy438Musicpage.html

A ram file , but you should be able to burn it to a cd as a wav.

Give it a minute or so, I'm uploading it now. Who sings Strawberry Wine?

jan

Deanna Carter sings Strawberry Wine.

I downloaded it from the site Richard posted. It said something about file not supported. Probably because I use XP Windows Media Player.

Mary, I sent you an email. I'm guessing it wouldn't work the first time because it's not completely uploaded.

It went from 27 seconds to 1:40 secs.

Thanks.....jan

Now that I'm getting the hang of these CD-RW, I'm planning on buying more.

Wondering what type of pen/pencil I need to use to write on them?

Thanks,

Jan, a sharpie felt tip works good, or your can print out labels with software that probably came with your burner. Note that you only need to buy cr-r, vs cd rw for music (and most things).

Not sure if this is true, but have read it in a few places. gold coloured cd's are supposed to be the best. they are about the same price. Like I said , don't know for sure if that is true, I use them.

I haven't done this, but want to - get a rubber stamp made ," burned by Jan, for your pleasure, happy listening" for giving cd's as gifts. and another - " this side up"

while we listen to Jan's strawberry wine. Works for me! :dkdance:

jan

"Note that you only need to buy cr-r"

That's what I did today. Here's 2 differences I found in the R and RW:

*The Cd-Rw would not play in my daughter's player at all.
*The Cd-Rw played in the car when it wanted to. I would have to eject and keep trying about 5 times before it would start.

*The Cd-r is playing in the car perfectly.
*The Cd-r is playing in my daughter's player perfectly.

So, the Cd-Rw will be left to only copy files. And, I bought a Sharpie felt tip pen because of Richard's suggestion.

I know this subject is boring everyone, but I just had to finalize it.

Thanks everyone.

I always thought the CD-R were recordable - one time only and the CD-RW were used to re-record and use like a floppy. Am I wrong with that assumption? I also found that if I wanted something to work on all types of computers I needed to use the CD-R type to record.

Flash ho
11-08-2002, 12:15 AM
Hi Fred, No you are correct. I was telling her to use cdr as they are cheaper and you won't likely need to re do them. If you leave them open you can edit them somewhat tho. I use cd rw for backing up files. cd r for music and images.

Fred
11-08-2002, 12:28 AM
So, if I record 10 files on a cd-R, I can go back later and add to the unused space?

Flash ho
11-08-2002, 01:01 AM
Yeap, just don't close it when you are finished recording.

Shane
11-08-2002, 01:05 AM
Yes Fred

Certainly you can...or you can overwrite files with the same name..you would loose the original version but the newer version would be burnt to the CD-R.

I often do this on back up website files, using CD-R which I buy in bulk.

CD-RW have a limited use (I find at least). I kiinda think that if you wanted to burn something to CD you'd wanna keep it or maybe even update it. The price fall of blank CD's (both CD-R & CD-RW) has made CD-RW less relevant I find. I think they were seen as a godsend in the earlier days of CD recording but now..................

Hey Jan..this thread aint boring no-one, we all are learning something, its on 3 pages now.............

If anyone wants a recipe for Tinto Verana (Spanish Summer Wine) I've got a killer one that would remove the colour that Richards Strawberry Wine Recipe would put in your cheeks.................
