hey is the black and white tree for looks or is that the tree we use?
and how do I get the tree if I can use it? can I make diffrent orniments?
like the categories Fred put? you know?

3. Maximum Colored Tree or Substitute Image size - 450px Height, 250px Width (Must be named tree.jpg)
4. Maximum "bottom of page" Image size - 350px Height, 350px Width (Must be named mytree.jpg)

this is kinda tricky for me, :oops:

I don't understand #3 and #4, what size of tree do I need to make?
because the black and white tree is 419x549

do I drag the orniments down to the tree I make?

Yeah, a little confusing for me. I think the black and white tree on the right is sorta for looks, unless you want to edit it or something, cause it's your personal picture, decorate it however you wish! This is my understanding of it. Need someone to clear this up a bit!

Maybe an entry example would help. I don't completely get it , either.
What colour is the "page" to be? Each entry has his/her own page? Only gif's?
Tree.gif is the tree, what is mytree.gif? a footer banner?

Size of the tree.jpg substitute:
This is if you don't want to color the tree, maybe just add some photo of your own. As Crystal says, we said the size wrong... guess it IS about 420 x 550 needed to cover the background tree.

The reason the background tree is there, is in case someone does not want to color, does not want to upload a HUGE photo.... then they can just upload a smaller image, like a photo of yourself or the kids... this small photo will show up about top left of the background tree, so there will be no big empty space in that situation.

Whatever you upload to replace the white tree needs to be named tree.jpg

mytree.jpg
This will show up at the bottom of the page, under your ornament creations. It can be a banner, a photo, whatever you want to put there.
The script does not limit the size here, it is just that much bigger will slow down the page loading.

The white coloring Tree:
You can right click on it, save picture to your hard drive. Then color/decorate it in Paint or any graphics program. When you're done, upload it as tree.jpg and it will replace the white one, and still cover the background one.

(Or, I guess you could print the white tree, color it, and scan it to your hard drive, then upload it as tree.jpg.)

Ornaments:
You can make as many as you like. We just put 8 ornament spots to start, and will add as many more ornament spots as anyone wants... the more, the better! Just let us know!

All uploaded images need to be all lower case, and named exactly as the directions say for each image placement... like tree.jpg, mytree.jpg, 1.gif, 2.gif and so on. (They need to be named that way, to replace the ones that are there in the beginning.)

Does this clear it up a little better? Ask more questions if not, please.

Of course, we still want to do the sharing and creating right here on the forum like we did last year, then just upload to your page when an ornament is done.

Here's an example:

Click on Desi (my daughter) in lower left collumn.

You can see that it will resize to fit your ornament size, up to 150px x 150px for the 1.gif, 2.gif, etc.

She chooses not to color, so she uploaded her favorite image as tree.gif :)
(She could have uploaded an image big enough to cover the background tree if she prefered to do that, as long as it was named tree.jpg.

The image at the page bottom can be anything you wish, as long as you name it mytree.jpg.

The script does not take jpg for the ornaments, but most animations are gifs I think. Maybe Chris or someone knows how to change the script to accept other than gifs for the ornaments?? Let us know because we want this to be easy and fun for everyone. :)

Nice tree coloring, Flash Ho! Thanks for that test... it shows there are not too many size limits, we just want to keep the sizes so they will load the page faster for us dialup folks... but hey, its your page y'all, so its up to you. :)

errr... "post data"?? I do sometimes get a "request to retry" popup after hitting refresh on browser, but then it works fine.

As I said, I don't know how to make the script accept extensions other than gif for the ornaments, without going into each individual page source code and changing the original gif image to the extension you want. But again, its your page, so alter whatever you like I guess. :)

I think this could be fun and teach a lot of us how to do these things; just try to keep the teaching on the forum so we can all learn together. We have the space and bandwidth, so y'all get creative!

The ornaments can be added to the tree, if you reduce them and put them on your tree.gif. They can not be dragged onto the tree. Make a tree, make a copy of, and resize your ornaments and paste them on your tree in psp. Besides your ornaments you can make a tree and a footer. They are all individual images. Does that help? :?

Well this was my first attempt at making an ornament in psp8. I don't have a clue what I'm doing. Just kept trying things. One of these days I'm going to sit down and read that darn book that came with it.

So far, for y'all who are making your own tree.jpg or coloring your
tree.jpg, I have removed the background tree, so that your pages will
load faster. I also centered them or resized a tad if it was needed.

Lest I miss one, be sure to remind me to remove the background tree for
you, and tell me when you want more ornament spots added.... make all
you like, there is NO limit on how many you can have. It only takes a
minute to add them for you.

All the designs are amazing as usual. :cool:

Please tell everyone you know that they are welcome to come on over
and join the fun. :banana:

You can drag your pictures on to the tree if you want, then take a screenshot to upload as the bottom (mytree) picture. Users of 'Evilscape' do not have the ability to drag these pictures.

Please get rid of your 3.gif ornament. I'm sorry but I had to delete it
online as it crashed my computer numerous times. I don't know why it did
that, but best to just make something new for that 3.gif spot. You now
have a link at bottom of your page to your page 2. So keep it up, you're

Hey I think I'm getting it together... Chris will be so proud of me, lol.

Your pages are all set up correctly now... 16 on your first page and 38
on your 2nd page. (38 seems to be all the code I can squeeze into the
extra pages; but you can have all the extra pages you want.)

Anyway, got this down pat now, so I can probably keep up now. :)

I think I can do this with the tree.swf and mytree.swf .... I think I've
almost got it. :)

I need you to take a look at the source code here and tell me exactly
what the code is suposed to be... I just used some code that I had used
for something else:

I can not make any ornaments .swf compatible because that code is long
and WAY too confusing for me to change it for .swf there. HOWEVER, I
CAN change from gif to jpg... just tell me how many you want to be
jpg. :)

If we can make this work, I'll be happy to alter your page to accept
tree.swf and mytree.swf also, of course. You'll just need to tell me the
code that I need to substitute for you. :)

Misty pages is having the same problem mine did, can't upload the gifs,
wonder why her 3.gif hmmm strange, she made a candy cane last night,
I uploaded it for her because she is busy getting ready for school, but after the candy can uploaded, I tried uploading another one of her ornaments I got the denined thing like on mine,
thank you for placeing more boxes, :D I love your ornaments there pretty, how did you get the crystal glass on some of them? I tried that it didn't work, :(

Crystal, I think Misty's should be ok now. Maybe I forgot to redo the permissions on some when I made the changes.

I don't know why that one image crashed my browser. I took them one by one and opened them on my hard drive with IE. That one crashed me every time that I tried to open it. Opening on the computer is a good way to test... you just right click on an image, then select "open".

I can't do anything in PSP like you folks do, so I just "borrow" and add a little to it, then merge. (Shhhhhhh!!!!! Don't tell on me, lol) But I can't get rid of the white background this way. Oh well... I'm having fun so no matter. :)

you can barrow some of my gifs, I can do the transparent ok but on some graphics I have a hard time getting the file small enough, I am in hopes to find good tuts for adobe photoshop, thanks for fixing the pages for us, :D

Instead of the extra room needed for a stand-alone forum, I've done a mod that integrates with 4Images that's more of a running conversation tag board (no avatars, no smilies, no work), but I miss the little guys sometimes!

Don't worry about it. I don't do PSP either and all mine have the backgrounds. Best I can do. Making the b/g transparent only leaves messy pixles, I'm too lazy to clean up. shhhh!!!! :)

Oh, just FYI ... my second page has Crystal's name at the top. LOL! Does that mean that she gets to make 16 ornaments for me? I hope. I hope. OK, I know it's a boo-boo. Darn! :lol:

Since I can't see the background, its hard to tell which is causing the
horizontal scrolling. I think the top one, but changing size in code does not
seem to have any effect. I can change the bottom one easily though. But
I think it will look great! :)

the dims in the div tag and in the object tag should all match, like below width should be 540 and height should be 440
( not sure , but looks like dims of the iframe doesn't matter, they may need to be changed, but I think not)

Looks like width should be 240 for no scroll on 800 x 600 res. so, say 240 x 440 ?? work for you?

Hey all :), thanks Helen, I don't mind sharing my things, I like to share with good friends, if anyone want them just holler :), Flash I don't know how he did the code but I bet he got the idea off my drag and drop doll script, the script I have for the dolls, its a doll maker, and what it does you can drag the cloths to the dolls and drop them and move them around
to get them right, same as putting the body parts togeather, I am not sure if that is what he got it from or not,

Ok Flash, I figured that out at last. :)

I got the top one up to 400W with no horizontal scrolling, and 550H.... but
can't see for certain where it is 'cause no bg... but don't "think" it is
overlapping the top ornaments.

So just make that one any size up to those dimensions, and the bottom
one can be whatever too. It is now 340W and 240H. Just let me know
what size when you're done.

In the Holiday spirit yet? :D

The php loads in to the iframe for a couple of reasons...

1. It originally worked with 3 pages, but I managed to customise it and make it 2 pages. So that the pages can change without affecting the rest of the page, I put the code in to an iframe

2. I made it in Web Studio so that I could make 1 page then just hit duplicate for the rest of the pages. For the php to work, the page extensions would need to be php. Adding the php to an iframe took away the need to adjust all of the filenames to *.php prior to upload.

The drag drop script is that same that was used in Crystals site. It just allows you to move your decorations on to your tree for a screenshot if you wish.

Would you like a row of 150x150 SWF's added to your decorations page? if so, what version of flash are you using?

I am on here all night catching up if anyone wants to ask anything. Sorry I have not been around to answer your questions. I completely lost my internet connection and have only just been able to restore it.

OK. I will let you in on a little trick though ;). Right click on the picture and select properties. This will give you the filename of the picture. Once you have that name, you can upload one with the same name as a replacement.

I'm using FlashMX04 and Flash MX, but publishing in 6. If you change the code to player 6 ( or even 4 or 5 for swish users ), anyone with player 6 or above will be able to view them.

The boxes around the pictures are tables and are set to be as big as the picture that it surrounds... whatever the size of the picture ;)

I found your new 7 ornaments in the page 1 folder, so I moved them into your page 2 folder. They are on your page 2 now and they're really amazing!

I didn't make a page 3 yet, just put a link for it in case you want it... it only takes a few minutes. Don't feel pressured, just do as many as you enjoy doing. :)

The retry appears if refresh is clicked before the timer in the last php file has finished. I set the timer to be long enough for the info to be read, but quick enough to not interfere. Could have been quicker maybe?? hehehe

Since there will be judging, I don't think anyone should add to Misty's
page but Misty herself. BUT....

I'll be happy to make your mom a page(s).... it only takes a little while....
we truly do need more participants! Just tell her to register here at the
forum. She will see her page up and ready to upload to very quickly. :)

In case anyone missed it, we have extended the deadline:
You can submit ornaments to your pages until midnight EST Sunday night,
the 21st of December.

HEART WARMING EXCEPTION TO THE RULES:
If someone is ill, as with Sarah and maybe Wildsisters, or if someone tells
us that they want to participate and just can't because of work, like our
Jan has said, etc. :

In those cases, I think it would be a wonderful thing to upload something
to their pages for them, so they'll know that we miss them.

Most of mine were just made from photos of collectibles that I have. (There's a stretch! :roll: ) But, appropriate, I guess! As you can see, I've discovered the polarity tool on PhotoShop along with 3D rendering. If it gets much more difficult than that ... I'm lost! :?
