Fred, Helen,
Is it possible to upload an avatar manually to a folder on the forum to get it to work? If so, could you please add this one to the folder for me:
http://collectingsouthpark.com/Thanksgiving/Thanksgiving7t.gif
Thanks. :)
I could with no problem Karen but not necessary - I hope. :? I just uploaded your gif using your URL to GNOBFA - here is the strange part -
I Used the option below -
Link to off-site Avatar:
Enter the URL of the location containing the Avatar image you wish to link to.
I changed all the // and / in the URL to \\ and \ and it worked.
Try it like this: http:\\collectingsouthpark.com\Thanksgiving\Thanks giving7t.gif
Don't ask me why - maybe Chinese.
I just spent the last 3 hours on the Help site and changing the permissions like everyone suggested. I had no luck. One poster said if you already have an Avatar in use you needed to delete it first then try to upload the new one. Another poster said that solved his problem - didn't solve mine.

Thanks, Fred. Got it! Now ... that is REALLY bizarre!
Actually, it should have worked from the URL blank, but I got this message that said that my image had to be .gif, .jpg or .png (which it was ... a .gif!) That was strange. But, I did it in the off-site one and it worked with the backwards slashes.
I'm going to look in my auction thread (the dreaded "chron") and see if I can see what folder I had to check to get rid of the extra line spaces. If there's a simlar file for the forum, perhaps you just need to remove the spaces and all will be OK.
It has nothing to do with getting rid of your old avatar first. In my forum, like any of the others (i.e. WS, etc.) if you upload a new avatar, it just replaces the old one.
ON EDIT: OK, I checked the auction and the extra line spaces that I had to take out to solve the WARNINGS there was in a file /includes/config_inc.php. I looked in the forum /includes folder to see if there was a similar folder and couldn't find one. DRAT!! :x Taking out those line spaces cleared up like 20 pages I had with WARNINGS. It was really amazing. Well, back to the drawing board. Sorry, Fred! :(
I'll keep checking around and see if I can find out anything for ya.
As with my auction ... php scripts are wonderful, if you know what you're doing. If you don't, the simplest thing could have you tied up in knots for days!
