Helen,

Don't shoot me. I messed up something big time on my Auction. I took it down. Could you please download the script onto my server again. I was playing with something I shouldn't have been playing with.

Got to get it back up fast. I've got interest from some folks, but when they signed up and went in, the categories were all screwed up and the sell an item page was blank. Anyway. Can I please start from scratch on this. Now I know what NOT to do!

Thanks.

Hi Karen,

Your new auction is ready. I sent you an email with URLs and passwords, which are the same as before. I missed your post because I went to bed early and got up late. I'm sorry if I delayed you.

Delay me? Jeesh ... I was almost too embarrassed to ask you to upload the script again. I would have just gone to the tech at the website and asked for help, but they usually expect you to tell them what you did. And, to tell you the truth, by the time I was done, I had no idea!

Thanks again!

It is no trouble at all. Don't EVER hesitate to ask. That's why we have this forum, and questions will keep it alive. You're helping US. :D

Well ... without touching anything this time, I've discovered a major glitch in the auction script. When a registered user tries press "Sell an Item", an error message comes up:

Warning: fopen("counter/auction_id.txt" "w+") - Permission denied in /home/csp/public_html/auction/sell.php on line 192 Couldn't create file

so the page is blank with just the error message and no one can post anything to sell.

I put in an error report to their tech support. Hopefully, they can tell me something. Auction where you can't sell anything is not fun!!

Karen, that's not a script error - it looks like you have the permissions set incorrectly on the counter/auction_id.txt file. Different scripts have different requirements, but it would seem that you need to make that file writable by the scripts. I'd have to get a look at the program to say for certain, but the error you got is definitely due to incorrect permissions.

You're absolutely right, Mary! :D

She just changed the chmod to 777 while we were on chat and then it worked like a charm!

We have demos of all these programs online, just as they are when installed. So feel free to play around with any you like. Look in the What's New post for the list of programs, plus all the demo and info links for them.

The Blog is the one that jkleffman is interested in right now.
