Hi gang,

I was enjoying really decent placement on Google over the last few months, but since I changed over from NamesDirect to Go Daddy as my registrar... I now get zero placement on google... that is even when I type in exact phrases and words that used to come back at the top of the page for "matches". Is it because I have changed to GoDaddy?

Thx,

RB

Hi RB,

I would very highly doubt it.... Google is great for searchers because it keeps updating..Google is crap for web designers :( because we gotta tend to it like a wo......... cat, yeah thats it..a cat. It needs stroking every now & again.

Are you resubmitting say every 4/6 weeks to Google, are you listed on dmoz ? ( http://www.dmoz.org ) these things matter to Google. As long as your URL hasn't changed where it is shouldn't matter.

Google also places higher than other on things like the amount of links to your site, your title (make it relevant.... Real Estate For Sale, rather than Shanes Great House Bargains), your domain name, (realestate.com, rather than...etc......) your ALT tags, all the usual stuff.. (of course if you sell cars or hamsters these are useless  , I'm sure you get my point :D

I had a friend email me only yesterday with the same thing/problem & with Google........... I told him the same...look at the sites that are now hitting on YOUR keywords..& think of them as YOUR keywords  what are they doing that you aren't ?

Hunt them down & shoot them down...errrr code wise of course I mean.........

Hi RB,

Think Shane hit it on the head. Listing on DMOZ is very important. That's where they spider from. I've had great placement on Google for the six months I've had my site and haven't had to re-list. Of course, I HAVE linked to a lot of folks, which may very well be the key.

Cats, indeed!

Hey Karen..Cats of course !!

I met the Cat in Da Hat once at Universal Studios, he was just getting off his shift, but thats another story...

One of my favourite all time songs, 'Cool For Cats' by Squeeze, the next time you guys at one of those naughty mp3 sites, you could do worse........

Hi folks,

Thanks! I went in and submitted my URL to google, and will go back and do DMOZ... as far as I remember, the category that fit me in DMOZ was looking for a moderator (is that the word?) anyways, I never did get listed there because of that. Is it different for small business sites?

Shane, I often go in and put in search names that would relate to my site to see what comes up... and it looks like Google did a house cleaning, because there are a ton of new sites that come up for the same old search words I used to type in.

Hi RB,

As I recall, the section I wanted to be in in DMOZ was without a moderator, too. After waiting the requisite time, I sent an email to one of the moderators from a "related" category and they went ahead and dug my submission out of the pile that was just sitting there and pushed it through. So, if you apply. Wait their requisite amount of time and if you don't hear anything, send an email to one of the moderators from the closest related topic that has a moderator and ask for assistance. They usually will help you out! :)

Thanks Karen, I will try that.
